Having a swimming pool in your backyard is such a great addition to your property. There are plenty of fun things you can do in the water especially during summertime. From pool parties to simply playing in the water, a backyard pool can surely help keep you cool during those hot days.
Before you start planning your backyard pool, you need to be aware that a pool requires weekly maintenance no matter how big or small it is. There are plenty of contaminants that could get into the water and you need to remove them promptly to maintain a clean and safe pool to swim in. Here is a simple guide on how to clean a pool on a weekly basis.
Skimming your poo should be done on a daily basis. Skimming refers to clearing the pool water surface from dried leaves, twigs, insects, and other debris that are floating on it. It is a lot easier to remove the debris before they sink into the bottom of the pool. Aside from that, when you skim every day, there will be lesser debris that goes into the pool filter system and your pool water would also look crystal clear.
Dirt can build up on the sides and bottom of the pool. To keep your pool looking bright and clean, it is important to brush it every week. Be sure to brush all the surfaces – from the walls, floor, ladders, and other parts of the pool. Regular brushing helps prevent the build-up of dirt and spread of algae in your pool. After brushing, set up your pool vacuum to clean up all those sediments that have settled at the bottom of the pool.
The pool filter is where all the pool water goes through. It catches all the debris and other particles in the pool water keeping it clean and clear. However, a dirty filter has lesser cleaning efficiency and even works the pump harder. Check the pool filters weekly and clean it to bring back its optimum filtering performance.
Simply cleaning the pool by brushing, skimming and filtering the water isn’t enough to make it safe for swimming. There are microorganisms that could be present in the water and could cause illnesses when taken into the body.
Aside from those other cleaning methods, you can use pool chemicals to kill those microorganisms that are present in the water. Be sure to test the water to see if the chemical levels have lowered to a safe level. If you have shocked the pool, just leave the pump running and wait for at least 24 hours or until the chemical levels are already safe for swimming.
Owning a backyard pool may sound like a lot of work but all of it is worth it with all the fun that it could bring to you, your family and friends.
